Trials

A trial lets you evaluate Kumo.io for 14 days. On kumo.io the trial is of the Business plan; for self-hosted installations, your account gets one 14-day evaluation that starts when you connect your first installation.

Trials on kumo.io

New hosted accounts can try the Business plan free for 14 days. You get the Business plan's features and limits (see What does each plan include?) with a few things held back until you subscribe:

  • full diagrams: during the trial some resources are blurred and diagrams carry a watermark,
  • exporting diagrams and data exports,
  • public share links and sharing with people outside your account.

Everything else, including syncing your cloud, exploring resources and environments, and generating views, works as it does on Business.

See when your trial ends

In your workspace, open Settings → Billing & Plans and choose Plan, usage, and quotas. While you are on a trial, Current Plan shows the status trialing and the date in Trial Ends.

To keep the Business features after the trial, buy a plan from your Kumo.io account before that date. See How do I pay, change plan or get invoices?

Diagrams during a trial

During a trial, Kumo.io protects your diagrams until you subscribe:

  • some resources in each diagram are blurred, and the diagram carries a Kumo.io watermark. The same applies to thumbnails and previews.
  • export and share controls are dimmed and locked.

Choosing a locked control or a blurred resource opens a panel such as Export This Diagram or See Every Resource. Choose View Plans to see the plans, or Not Now to close it. If you can't buy for your account, the panel says "Ask an account owner to upgrade this account."

You can always open and explore your own diagrams; nothing is deleted.

Self-hosted evaluation

Your Kumo.io account gets one 14-day evaluation for self-hosted installations. It starts the moment you connect your first installation to your account (from your local Kumo.io instance, choose Connect account). Every installation you connect while it runs shares the same evaluation period, and connecting again later, even after reinstalling, doesn't start a new one.

If you buy a licence instead, every installation you connect is licensed immediately. You can also install a licence directly on your deployment, without connecting it.

When a self-hosted evaluation ends

When the evaluation ends and an installation holds no licence, the installation locks. Logging in still works, but the rest of the product shows Your trial has ended, with "After purchasing, this installation unlocks automatically on its next check-in." Through the API, requests are refused with 403 and the code LICENSE_DENIED.

To unlock it:

  1. Buy a plan or add a licence in your Kumo.io account at https://account.kumo.io (Billing).
  2. Assign the licence to the installation if it isn't assigned automatically (Installations, then open the installation).
  3. On the locked installation, choose I've done this — reload. The installation picks up the licence on its next check-in, which happens within a few minutes.

An installation that has never been connected to an account shows Connect this installation instead: connecting it starts your evaluation.
