Platform support
Kumo.io self-hosted ships as one multi-architecture Linux container image. Here is what it runs on, what it brings with it, and what it needs from you.
The container image
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Image | kumoio/kumo |
| Architectures | linux/amd64 and linux/arm64, in one multi-architecture image — docker pull picks the right one |
| Base | Alpine Linux with Node.js 26 |
| Tags | <version> for each release, <major>.<minor> for the newest release in a line, and latest for the newest release |
Every published image is built natively for each architecture, smoke-tested, and scanned for vulnerabilities before it is tagged. The image contains no package manager.
Host
- Linux containers only. Run the image under Docker on Linux, or under Docker Desktop on macOS and Windows. There is no native Windows or macOS build, and no Windows container image.
- Not supported:
s390xandppc64le, and glibc-based image variants. - Docker Compose v2 if you use kumo deployment.
Database
| Option | Version |
|---|---|
| Built into the container | PostgreSQL 17, nothing to install |
kumo deployment with a bundled database | A PostgreSQL 17 container |
| Your own PostgreSQL | PostgreSQL 17 |
| AWS stack | Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL 17 |
With your own database, the Kumo.io database user needs permission to create the pg_trgm extension when the schema is first created. Kumo.io uses no other external stateful service.
Storage
The container keeps its state on one volume mounted at /data: the built-in database (when you use it), the keys Kumo.io creates for itself, and its scheduled backups. Give it persistent storage, and room for the database to grow plus seven daily backups.
Network
- Inbound: one port, 9500, for the app and the API. Put a TLS-terminating proxy or load balancer in front of it for
https://access. - Outbound: HTTPS to the cloud provider APIs you connect, and — to connect the installation to your Kumo.io account — to Kumo.io's service. See Connect an installation.
Browsers
Kumo.io's web app is built for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Older browsers, including Internet Explorer, are not supported.
