Try Kumo.io with sample data
Select Explore Sample Data and Kumo.io builds a workspace from a bundled, fictional AWS estate. You get real resources, connections, environments and diagrams to explore, with no credentials and nothing touching your cloud.
Create the sample workspace
The Explore Sample Data button appears in three places:
- On Home, while you haven't connected a cloud account yet.
- In the Add a Source wizard, next to "Just exploring?".
- On the Workspaces page, next to Create Workspace.
Select it. The button reads "Building sample…" while Kumo.io works. When it finishes, Kumo.io opens the new workspace's overview. Creating it needs permission to manage workspaces in your account.
What's inside
The sample is a small, fictional AWS account in us-east-1. Its account number is 000000000001, so you can't mistake it for one of yours. It holds two VPCs with subnets and instances, a load balancer and a database, plus queues, topics and functions. That's enough for Kumo.io to find connections between resources, identify environments and draw diagrams.
Kumo.io builds the workspace by running a normal sync against this bundled data. Everything you see is produced the same way as for a real account:
- resources and connections under Inventory › Resources
- a revision, the first point on the workspace's timeline
- environments under Inventory › Environments
- generated diagrams under Inventory › Diagrams
The workspace overview shows a Sample Data banner: "this workspace was seeded from Kumo.io's bundled demo topology; nothing here touches your cloud."
What you can do with it
The sample workspace behaves like any other workspace:
- Sync Now re-syncs it from the same bundled data, so you can watch a sync run and see a second revision appear.
- Browse, search and open diagrams as you would for a real estate.
- On Connections › Cloud Connections, its credential is listed with the provider shown as "Placeholder", because it isn't a real cloud credential.
Selecting Explore Sample Data again reuses the existing sample workspace and syncs it again; it doesn't create a duplicate.
During a trial, diagrams are shown blurred and can't be exported or shared. That applies to the sample workspace too.
Remove it
When you're done, remove the sample the same way you would remove anything else, in this order:
- On the workspace's Connections tab, Delete its source. A deleted source stops syncing and is archived, so you can restore it later.
- Under Connections › Cloud Connections, delete its credential. Kumo.io won't delete a credential while a source still uses it.
- On the Workspaces page, archive the workspace.
Connect your own cloud
When you're ready, select Connect Your Own Cloud → on the sample banner, or follow Connect your cloud and see your first diagram.
