Using Kumo.io
Resources and search
Every resource Kumo.io has observed is on the Resources page, filterable by type, provider, workspace, location and tag. Press Cmd K (Ctrl K on Windows and Linux) to search everything from anywhere, and open any resource for its properties, connections, history and cost.
Browse every resource
Open Resources in the sidebar. The page lists every resource Kumo.io has observed across the workspaces you can see.
- Search: type in Search resources by name, id, tag… to narrow the list as you type.
- Filters: the filter rail offers Resource Type, Provider, Workspace, Presence and Location, plus one filter per tag key (shown as Tag: Environment, Tag: Owner and so on). Each filter lists its values with a count.
- Columns: Resource, Resource Type, Cloud Scope, Location, Presence and Last Observed. Use the columns menu to hide any you don't need, and the density toggle for a tighter list.
- Preview: use a row's preview button to see a summary beside the list without leaving the page. Click the row itself to open the resource.
Presence is Kumo.io's record of whether a resource was seen, not the provider's running state. A stopped instance that still exists is still present.
Your search and filters are kept in the page address, so you can bookmark a filtered list or send the link to a teammate who has access to the same workspaces.
Saved filters
Choose Saved Filters, name the current search and filters, and select Save. Saved filters are private to you and stored in this browser only; they don't follow you to another browser or device.
Export the list
Export downloads the list as kumo-resources.csv:
- Export N Selected downloads the rows you've ticked.
- Export N Loaded Rows downloads every row loaded so far. Load more rows first if you want more than the first page.
For a complete inventory of a workspace, use the workspace data exports instead. See How do I get a diagram or data out of Kumo.io?
Search everything
Press Cmd K (macOS) or Ctrl K (Windows and Linux) on any page to open the search and command box. With nothing typed, it shows your recent items and the main pages. As you type, it matches pages and actions (for example "create environment") and searches your workspaces and resources. The last row, Search everything for "…", opens the full Search page with every result and its facets.
The Search page searches across resources, connections, sources, diagrams and diagnostics. Combine plain words with these facets:
| Facet | What it narrows to | Example |
|---|---|---|
type: | One resource type | type:compute.instance |
provider: | One provider | provider:aws |
kind: | What kind of result: resource, connection, source, job, view, diagnostic (comma-separate several) | kind:resource, connection |
ws: or workspace: | One workspace (by id) | ws:<workspace-id> |
For example, payments type:compute.instance provider:aws kind:resource finds AWS compute instances matching "payments". Put a value in double quotes if it contains spaces. A word:value pair that isn't one of these facets is searched as plain text.
Open a resource
A resource's page shows its name, type and native identifiers (with copy buttons), an Open Diagram menu listing the diagrams it appears on, and Copy Link. Its sections are:
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Overview | Key Configuration, a summary of its connections and recent changes, Identity and Scope, Observation and Coverage, and Environments and Diagrams. |
| Properties | Every attribute Kumo.io recorded for the resource. |
| Connections | What it connects to and what connects to it. |
| Changes | How the resource changed across snapshots, and a comparison between two snapshots. Requires the Business plan. |
| Cost | What the resource costs and how Kumo.io priced it. Requires a plan with cost visibility (Team or above). |
| Evidence | Where this record came from, as far as Kumo.io can show it, and what it cannot show. |
By default the page shows the resource in the latest snapshot. If you open an earlier snapshot, a notice says so, with Return to Latest. If a newer snapshot exists than the one you're viewing, View Latest jumps to it. When a source's last observation was incomplete or out of date, Review Sources takes you to the workspace's connections.
Favourites
Star a workspace, environment or diagram to add it to your favourites. Your favourites appear on Home for quick access.
Favourites are stored in this browser, separately for each account, up to 20 of each kind. They don't sync to other browsers or devices, and clearing your browser's site data removes them.
From the CLI
kumo resource list --workspace <id> [--semantic-type <type>] [--revision <id>] [--limit <n>] [--format json|text]
kumo resource show --workspace <id> --id <resource-id> [--revision <id> | --time <iso-timestamp>] [--format json|text]
kumo resource connections --workspace <id> --id <resource-id> [--direction in|out|both] [--connection-type <type>] [--format json|text]
resource listshows 50 rows by default. Pass--limit 0for all of them.resource show --timereads the resource as it was at a moment in time, for example--time 2026-06-10T14:00:00Z.- You can identify a resource by its canonical key instead of its id, with
--canonical-key <key>.
These three commands also work against kumo.io from your own machine, using an API token. In that mode, pass ids rather than names. See the CLI reference and How do I create a token for the API, CLI or MCP?
Hosted and self-hosted
Resources, search and favourites work the same way on kumo.io and on a self-hosted installation. The Changes section of a resource needs a plan that includes change comparison, and the Cost section needs one with cost features. See What does each plan include?
