Plans and limits
Kumo.io has three plans on kumo.io (Team, Business and Enterprise) and the same three for self-hosted installations. Every account and installation starts with a 14-day trial. This page lists what each plan includes, what happens when a trial or subscription ends, and what Kumo.io does when you reach a limit.
Plans at a glance
| Plan | Where | How you get it |
|---|---|---|
| Team | kumo.io | Buy it from your Kumo.io account. |
| Business | kumo.io | Buy it from your Kumo.io account. New accounts can try it free for 14 days. |
| Enterprise | kumo.io | Contact us. |
| Team, Business and Enterprise (Self-Hosted) | Self-hosted | Contact us. Each installation starts with a 14-day trial of Business (Self-Hosted) when you connect it to your Kumo.io account. |
There is no free plan. When a trial or subscription ends, your account or installation becomes read-only: see What happens when a trial or subscription ends.
Hosted and self-hosted plans are separate: a hosted plan does not move to a self-hosted installation, or the other way round.
Prices are shown on the secure checkout when you buy. See How do I pay, change plan or get invoices?
What each hosted plan includes
Each plan includes everything in the plan before it.
| Plan | Adds |
|---|---|
| Team | Syncing from AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, full diagrams with no blur or watermark, exports (including PDF and Visio), public share links, notes and drawn connections on views, cost visibility, Kubernetes, OIDC single sign-on, API tokens, and in-app support. |
| Business | Change comparison between revisions, alerts and notifications, full cost analysis, the audit log, reports, and sharing with signed-in people outside your account. |
| Enterprise | SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning and white-label branding. |
Hosted plan limits
| Team | Business | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connected sources | 3 | 10 | 25 |
| Users | 10 | 25 | Unlimited |
| History retention (days) | 90 | 180 | 365 |
| Sync runs per month | 500 | 2,000 | Unlimited |
| View generations per month | 1,000 | 5,000 | Unlimited |
| Minimum time between syncs | 6 hours | 1 hour | No minimum |
- Connected sources counts the sources connected in your account.
- Users counts the people in your account. The limit applies when you invite someone.
- Sync runs and view generations reset each month.
- History retention is the longest your account can keep revision history. A retention policy longer than your plan allows is refused.
- Minimum time between syncs: on Team, for example, you can start a sync once every 6 hours. The first sync is always allowed.
Self-hosted plans
| Plan | Includes |
|---|---|
| Team (Self-Hosted), Business (Self-Hosted), Enterprise (Self-Hosted) | The same as the hosted plan of the same name, with the same source and user limits, except in-app support. |
| Enterprise (Licensed) | Licences issued before the self-hosted lineup: everything in hosted Enterprise except in-app support. New licences use Enterprise (Self-Hosted). |
A self-hosted installation gets its plan, and its source and user limits, from its licence. See How do I license my self-hosted installations?
What happens when a trial or subscription ends
Your account (on kumo.io) or installation (self-hosted) becomes read-only. Nothing is deleted.
- Still works: viewing workspaces and diagrams, exports, managing members and their roles, revoking share links, cancelling queued work, and billing, so you can renew.
- Refused: syncing, connecting or changing sources, creating workspaces and other changes. A refused change shows Read-Only and how to renew, and a banner at the top of every page says the account is read-only.
- A trial that ends keeps what the trial withheld (exports, sharing and full-detail diagrams stay locked until you buy a plan).
- A self-hosted subscription keeps full use for 14 days after its end date before it becomes read-only. A trial has no extra days.
Renewing lifts read-only: on kumo.io at once, and on a self-hosted installation at its next check-in.
What happens at a limit
On kumo.io, Kumo.io checks a limit when you try to add something or start something: connecting a source, inviting a member, starting a sync or generating a view.
- Approaching a limit. Once your usage passes 80% of a limit, the request still goes through and your account admins get an Approaching a plan limit notice in Kumo.io.
- At the limit. The request is refused with 429 and the code
QUOTA_EXCEEDED, and your account admins get a Plan limit reached notice. In the app the error appears under the heading Plan Limit Reached, naming the limit, for example "You've reached your plan's limit on Connected Sources. Upgrade your plan or free up capacity to continue." Notices are sent at most once per limit per month. - Too soon to sync. Starting a sync before your plan's minimum interval is refused with 429 and the code
RATE_LIMITED, with the message "Your plan syncs at most once per N min; retry in Ns." - Too many requests. Sending requests faster than the request limits below is refused with 429 and the code
RATE_LIMITED. The app shows Too Many Requests and asks you to wait a moment before trying again. - A feature your plan doesn't include. The request is refused with 403 and the code
FEATURE_NOT_ENTITLED. In the app, a screen or section your plan doesn't include (Changes, Alerts, Reports, and the cost waste findings, forecast and allocation) shows a lock that names the feature and says whether your plan or your trial leaves it out. Select it to see what upgrading unlocks and View Plans; if you can't manage billing, it asks you to contact an account owner instead.
Reaching a limit never deletes anything. Your existing sources, members, diagrams and history stay as they are; you just can't add more until you free capacity or move to a larger plan.
Changing plan
- Upgrading takes effect immediately.
- Downgrading takes effect at the end of your billing period. If you are over a limit of the smaller plan, what you already have stays, but you can't add more until you are back under it. Features the smaller plan doesn't include stop at the end of the period; for example, public share links stop working when the plan no longer includes public sharing.
Request limits (all plans)
These apply to the API and to the app, which uses the same API.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Requests | 1,000 per 60 seconds per IP address. Health checks are not counted. |
| Login, sign-up and other account requests | 10 per 60 seconds per IP address, per endpoint |
| Repeated failed logins | 10 failures in 15 minutes locks login for 15 minutes |
| Page size | 100 items by default, up to 500. Larger values are reduced to 500. |
| Request body | 1 MiB |
| Workspace import | 32 MiB |
| Report size | 50,000 resources and 100,000 connections per report. A larger report covers the first part of the workspace and says it was truncated. |
Going over the request limit returns 429 with the code RATE_LIMITED and a Retry-After header. See What do responses, pages and errors look like?
